Description

A true gem with exceptional horticultural value and appeal, the Peve Minaret is a truly special miniature columnar form our our native Bald Cypress. It forms a compact spire 10 to 12 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide though can be kept more narrow with an annual pruning in late winter. The tree is clothed in soft feathery foliage that you just want to reach out touch, emerging light green aging to rich-green and finally to a handsome red-bronze for weeks in fall. During winter its attractive tiered branches, which point upwards at the ends, and fibrous bark provide unique character in the garden during the winter months. An exceptionally adaptable and easy to grow North American native, Peve Minaret thrives in most any moist to wet soil in cold northern and hot southern climates (USDA Zones 5-11) and has no pest or disease problems.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 8 to 12 feet tall and 3 to 5 feet wide, the Peve Minaret Dwarf Bald Cypress tree is ideal for use as a specimen, in spaced groupings at least 6 feet apart, or in single or staggered rows to line a walkway. Excellent as a small accent tree in home foundation plantings and around patios and other outdoor sitting and living spaces. Its smaller stature makes it a perfect candidate for containers. Highly adaptable, it will thrive in wet to somewhat dry sites so is excellent for use in swampy areas or near ponds or other bodies of water. A fine addition to native plant gardens, bog and rain gardens, conifer gardens and wildlife gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  6 feet or more apart in spaced groupings; two can be used to frame an entryway

Growing Preferences

Being a North American native, the Peve Minaret Dwarf Bald Cypress is highly adaptable and exceptionally easy to grow in a variety of soil types, including clay, and likes full sun to light shade. It grows best in a consistently moist to wet soils, even standing water, but will tolerate dry periods. We suggest an occasional deep soaking during extended periods of dry weather. Maintenance is minimal to none. Pruning isn't necessary, however an annual pruning in late winter can be performed to keep the tree more narrow. Avoid pruning in the spring when the tree is emerging from dormancy.

Do keep in mind that it is one of a few deciduous conifers, meaning its needles will drop in the fall and regrow in the spring. But its fibrous bark provides interest during the winter and contrasts beautifully with the foliage during spring, summer and fall.
