Description
Pink Pampas Grass forms large and impressive clumps 5 to 7 feet high and wide, with large, feathery pink plumes in late summer, persisting but changing to a buff color through winter to add appeal to the winter landscape. The plumes are excellent for use in fresh or dried floral arrangements. Pampas grass is tolerant of salt spray, so it is a fine choice for coastal landscapes.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a large, grassy mound 6 to 7 feet tall and nearly as wide, Pink Pampas Grass is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or to form a natural barrier in sunny landscape borders. It looks especially nice near lakes and other bodies of water, to frame entryways, or to frame corners or fill open walls in home foundation plantings. It makes for a nice solo or centerpiece in large containers of 18 inches or more in rim diameter. A fine addition to ornamental grass gardens, pink theme gardens, seaside gardens, and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing: Space 5 to 6 feet apart for hedges; 12 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Pampas Grass is very easy to grow and is not fussy about soil type, provided it is well-drained. Though a little shade is tolerated, it loves as much sun as you can give it. Seven hours of sun per day is suggested. Pampas Grass is tolerant of salt spray, so it is a great choice for plantings near the sea.
