Description
At 16 inches in length, Pinky Winky produces some of the most unique and large flower clusters we've seen yet on any Hydrangea paniculata. But what makes Pinky Winky extra specially unique is how flowers emerge white in summer and gradually thereafter begin to turn light and then to dark pink from the bottom up, producing the spectacular two-tone effect that folks adore.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 6 to 8 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide, the Pinky Winky Hydrangea is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a colorful hedge in landscape borders. Also a nice accent or between widely spaced windows in home foundation plantings. A fine addition to mixed flowering shrub borders, hydrangea gardens, perennial gardens, pink theme gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 4 feet apart for solid hedges; 9 feet or more for space between plants

Growing Preferences
Pinky Winky Hydrangea is easy to grow in average, moist, well-drained soil. It can take the heat in the South but is also exceptionally cold hardy, withstanding even the coldest winter temperatures in the North. In the South, it's best to plant in a location that provides some afternoon shade. For best blooming give it at least 6 hours of sun a day. USDA Zones: 3a-8b Find Your Zone >
Note: Pinky Winky is a Hydrangea paniculata species that produces its flowers from buds that are formed on "new wood" (the current season's growth). This means you don't want to prune them in late spring or summer when they're preparing to bloom.
