Description
Pollynation Orange Red Coneflower is a new selection with very early flowering and large flowers over a long bloom period. It forms a clump of rich to dark green leaves from which rise sturdy stems to 28 inches tall bearing 3-4" diameter coneflowers in shades of orange and red with its rays surrounding a rounded, darker orange-red center cone. All summer and well into fall, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators will enjoy feeding from the flowers, which are also excellent for cutting and displaying in a vase or flower arrangement. Don't forget to leave some spent flowers on the plant at the end of the bloom season, as finches and other birds will feast on the seeds during fall and winter. Coneflowers are a classic in the garden, and this one will be treasured for years to come.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 24 to 28 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide, the Pollynation Yellow Coneflower is perfect for adding an accent to smaller garden spaces and container gardens. It wows in groupings or mass plantings in sunny gardens, landscapes, and woodland borders. It is a fine addition to butterfly gardens, bird gardens, orange gardens, cut flower gardens, and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 16 to 18 inches apart for solid groupings
Growing Preferences
Pollination Orange Red Coneflower is very easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil in full to mostly sun. Five hours of direct sunlight is suggested for best flowering and overall performance. As with many other perennial plants, constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic. Heavy, dense clay soils should be amended with organic matter to improve drainage. No deadheading necessary. Feed in spring with a good flower food or organic plant food.
