Description

One of the heaviest berry producers in our gardens, this is the tree-form version of 'Pride of Houston' Holly, an exceptionally attractive small-leaved native Yaupon Holly. It is prized by the folks in Texas and all other Southern states for its massive display of brilliant bright red berries that are cherished by birds fall through winter. Though it can grow to 20 feet tall and 15 feet wide when left to grow naturally, it responds very well to pruning and can easily be kept to half that size with an annual pruning in late winter. Having many uses in design, it is perfect for a specimen or privacy screen. It is also a fine candidate for interesting topiary forms such as a tree-form umbrella, pyramid or pompom. Extremely easy to grow in sun or part shade and moist or dry soils, and resistant to deer, disease, insects, heat, dry to periodically wet soils and sun or part shade, Pride of Houston Yaupon is a super hardy and adaptable plant that'll be around for you and the birds to enjoy for many, many years to come.

We hear that the young leaves of Yaupon contain caffeine and can be used to make a tea, but do your research before consuming any plant.
