Description

Easy to grow, trouble-free, and elegant as can be, the Purring Tiger Siberian Iris features exquisite flowers with dusty purple standards (top petals) that sit atop lower, subdued golden-yellow petals intricately lined with contrasting purple veins. The flowers are perched atop sturdy stems, making them excellent for cutting and display in a vase or floral arrangement. A compact selection, Purring Tiger forms a dense vertical clump of rich green sword-shaped leaves 18 to 24 inches tall and equally as wide, making him a good fit as an accent in smaller garden spaces and containers or grouped in larger garden beds and landscape borders. Highly adaptable and hardy in USDA Zones 3a to 9b, you can grow this one in moist but well-drained to wet soils and full sun to part shade. Purring Tiger is one of those flowering beauties that will always have you looking forward to its glorious late spring to early summer bloom.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 18 to 24 inches tall and gradually spreading to 18 inches or more in width, The Purring Tiger Siberian Iris is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and containers. It is truly stunning in groupings or mass plantings in larger gardens or landscape borders. It's such a neat, vertical clump that remains attractive throughout the year that we have no problems suggesting it for use as an accent or in groupings in home foundation plantings. The perfect centerpiece for combination container gardens. A fine addition to yellow or purple theme gardens, bog gardens, rock gardens, Iris gardens, and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing: 18 inches apart for mass plantings;  4 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

The Purring Tiger Siberian Iris is easy to grow when planted in moist but well-drained to wet soils of average to low fertility in full sun to part shade. We suggest 4 hours or more of direct sunlight daily for best flowering. Very low maintenance, after cutting foliage back to the ground in late winter, we feed plants annually in late winter with organic plant food.
