Description
A rose of exceptional beauty, Queen of Sweden forms a bushy upright shrub featuring abundant exquisite buds perched atop tall, sturdy stems that open to upward-facing half-enclosed cups that eventually open further to wide, formal blooms with up to 140 petals! Excellent for cutting and display in a vase or floral arrangement, the blooms start a soft apricot pink and gradually age to soft pink, exuding a wonderful myrrh fragrance. As new flowers emerge, the contrast in shades with the older flowers simultaneously provides a multi-hue effect with many shades of pink on the same shrub. With her upright but narrow stature of 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide, Queen of Sweden is a good fit for small garden spaces around patios and other outdoor sitting areas where the pretty flowers and delightful fragrance can be enjoyed from close up.
Queen of Sweden Rose was named to commemorate the Treaty of Friendship and Commerce between Sweden and Great Britain.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing up to 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide, the Queen of Sweden English Shrub Rose is ideal for an accent, in groupings, or as a hedge in sunny to partially shaded borders and garden beds. She can be situated around patios, decks and other outdoor sitting and living spaces. A fine addition to cottage gardens, pink theme gardens, antique and old-fashioned gardens, and fragrance and sensory gardens.
Growing Preferences
The Queen of Sweden English Shrub Rose is easy to grow in moist but well-drained soils of average or better fertility and full sun or partial shade for the best flowering. As with all other roses, morning sun is a must to dry dew from the leaves; however, this one will do fine with some filtered sun or shade during the afternoon hours. Flowering will be best if the plant receives at least 5 hours of direct sun during the day.
