Description

This is the single-trunk tree-form version of the 'Quick Fire Fab' Hydrangea. It starts producing abundant flower clusters about a month before other H. paniculata varieties, which means early summer in our north-central Georgia gardens. The ever-changing flowers emerge lime-green in early summer, turning to white and then to pink, and finally to deep watermelon red-pink shades later in summer through fall. The extra-large flower clusters are ideal for cutting, ensuring you'll always have plenty to create stunning fresh or dried floral arrangements. At 8 to 10 feet tall and 5 to 6 feet wide, the Quick Fire Fab Hydrangea Tree is a magnificent and colorful specimen in sunny to partially shaded landscape borders and home foundation plantings, in containers, or use two to frame an entrance.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 8 to 10 feet tall and 5 to 6 feet wide, the Quick Fire Fab Hydrangea Tree is ideal as a focal point specimen, or two can be used to frame an entrance. It is also an excellent addition to mixed flowering shrub borders, as a focal point in perennial gardens, or solo or combined with other plants in large containers. It is a fine addition to Hydrangea gardens, cut flower gardens, and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  Best as a specimen or use two to frame an entrance

Growing Preferences

The Quick Fire Fab Hydrangea Tree is easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil of average fertility. It can take the heat in the South but is also exceptionally cold-hardy, withstanding even the coldest winter temperatures in the North. In the South (USDA Zones 7-9), it's best to plant in a location with some filtered sun or shade during the afternoon hours when the sun is most intense. For optimal blooming, provide at least five hours of sunlight daily.

Note:  Quick Fire is a Hydrangea paniculata species that produces flowers from buds formed on "new wood" (the current season's growth). This means you don't want to prune them in late spring or summer when they're preparing to bloom.
