Description

'Raywood Weeping' is a fascinating weeping selection of our North American native Arizona Cypress with cloaked branching and fantastic, aromatic, bright silvery-blue foliage. No two trees are alike. If a tall and vertical tree is desired over the long term, we suggest staking this one when young to ensure a more upright form. Otherwise, though the tree might continue to grow skyward, it might decide to arch over towards the ground or "do its own thing" if not staked as it's getting established. It is also tolerant of aesthetic pruning for quite artistic results.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 15 to 20 feet in height, depending on training and pruning, and 6 to 8 feet wide at the base, the Raywood Weeping Arizona Cypress is ideal for use as a focal point specimen or to frame the corners of tall homes and other structures. Also suitable for growing in large containers and a fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens, and Xeriscape gardens (low water needs).

Growing Preferences

The Raywood Weeping Arizona Cypress is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part sun. To establish a more upright growth pattern it might be necessary to stake the tree. Tip pruning of branches will result in denser branching and fewer bare branches. It is also quite tolerant of aesthetic pruning to quite artistic results.
