Description
Red Head is a charming, hardy Fountain Grass featuring abundant, stylish, smoky purplish-pink red hued bottlebrush-like plumes starting in midsummer that rise above a gracefully arching mound of rich green grassy foliage that turns splendid golden-yellow shades in fall. The flowers sway in the slightest of breezes and darken in color as the season progresses, persisting through fall. At 3 feet tall and 4 feet in bloom, and 3 feet wide, Red Head is ideal as an accent in smaller garden spaces and containers, in groupings or drifts in larger spaces, or groupings or as an accent in home foundation plantings where its foliage texture and color are a lovely contrast with other plants.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to 4 feet tall in bloom and 3 feet wide, Red Head Fountain Grass is ideal as an accent in smaller garden spaces or grouped or in drifts in larger landscapes and sunny woodland borders. It is also a fine textural accent or grouping in home foundation plantings. It is lovely as a solo or combined with other sun-loving perennials and flowers in pots, planters, and other containers of 16 inches or more in top diameter. It is a fine addition to ornamental grass gardens, rock gardens, cut flower gardens, bird gardens, xeric gardens, and around garden ponds.
Suggested Spacing: 24 to 30 inches apart for mass plantings; 5 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences
Red Head Fountain Grass is easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil of average to low fertility and six or more hours of sunlight daily. Constantly soggy soil or standing water is problematic. Once established, it is drought tolerant but may appreciate occasional supplemental water during extended summer heat and drought periods. Maintenance is little to none. A damaged flower can be removed at any time during the season. Foliage should be cut back near the ground annually before new leaves emerge in early spring.
