When summer heats up so does the Red Heart Rose of Sharon. It sizzles with an abundant and lavish display of outstanding large white hibiscus-like flowers with pure white petals surrounding a splash of rich ruby-red at the center. The flowers begin appearing in mid summer and continue well into fall, sometimes all the way to frost. Hummingbirds love the flowers and will make a beeline for those hot red, nectar-laden bullseyes! Exceptionally easy to grow and long-lived, this beauty will add a tropical flare in the backyard and front yard...a beautiful specimen that is sure to capture the attention and hearts of all the neighbors!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 8 to 10 feet tall with a spread of 6 to 8 feet, the Red Heart Rose of Sharon is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings in sunny landscape borders, home foundation plantings, around patios and other outdoor living spaces, or in containers. A fine selection for hummingbird gardens, tropical-look gardens, white theme gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 12'+ for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Rose of Sharon is very easy to grow. They grow well in most any average, moist but well-drained soil and full sun to light shade. When established, plants are tolerant of dry soil conditions. Some light shade is tolerated. Too much shade and plants will become leggy and floppy and flowering is diminished.
