Description
A Plant Select winner for good reason, Delosperma dyeri, is an outstanding Hardy Ice Plant that forms a 2 to 3 inch high ground-hugging carpet of succulent apple-green leaves that for most of the warm season is literally smothered in shades of red, coral, magenta pink and coppery colored quill-form flowers. The flower colors change more into various shades as the season progresses. Excellent for use in garden beds or containers. As with other ice plants, well-drained soil is a must for this waterwise, long blooming and hardy perennial succulent.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 2 to 3 inches tall and spreading to 18 inches or more wide, the Red Mountain Flame Ice Plant is ideal for use as an accent in small garden spaces or combination container gardens or in groupings or massed along the borders of walkways and paths, patios and garden beds. Very nice around rocks and boulders. A fine addition to succulent and cactus gardens, rock gardens, red theme gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing: 12 inches apart for mass planting

Growing Preferences
When planted right and in the right spot, Ice Plant is very easy to grow. It requires a well-drained lightly moist to dry soil and is very drought tolerant when established. Will tolerate rainy periods but constantly soggy or wet soil is a killer. It performs best in full sun but will tolerate part shade. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight for best overall performance.
