Description
A truly dramatic architectural plant that deserves a spot in every home landscape where it will grow (USDA Zones 5a-11), the deep rose-pink to red tubular, vase-like flowers of Red Yucca rise high above handsome mounds of elongated, grass-like, arching bluish-green leaves during summer and fall. In warmer southern regions its gorgeous flowers are often produced year round. Hummingbords will thank you for planting this one! This interesting desert-like plant loves the heat and dry weather but also is exceptionally cold hardy to -20F!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a mound 3 to 4 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide, the Red Yucca is ideal for use as a specimen in small spaces or containers, and in groupings or mass plantings in sunny to partly shaded larger landscape borders and home foundation plantings. Looks very nice around garden ponds or in rock gardens near boulders and is also makes a nice solo or centerpiece in container gardens. A fine addition to Asian theme gardens, red theme gardens, perennial gardens, rock gardens, tropical look gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs). We like combining Yucca with other low water need plants such as junipers, barberry, abelia, ornamental grasses, sedums, and loropetalum.
Suggested Spacing: 5 to 6 feet or more apart for space between plants
