Description

This is the red version of the award-winning Stella de Oro Daylily, which has golden-yellow flowers. As with its cousin, the Ruby Stella is an early bloomer starting in late spring or early summer and reblooming to the first frost in fall. This means hundreds of lightly fragrant, vibrant ruby-red trumpet flowers with golden yellow eyes produced in a single growing season. At 18 inches tall in bloom and equally as wide, Ruby Stella is stunning in groupings and mass plantings but also a colorful accent in small garden spaces and pots. As with Stella de Oro, we've seen no rust on this selection.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in an arching grassy clump to about 18 inches tall and equally wide, Ruby Stella Daylily is ideal for use in groupings, mass plantings, or as a border along paths and walkways. Also nice as an accent or small garden spaces or as a solo or mixed with other sun-loving plants in combination container gardens. A fine addition to lily gardens, red theme gardens, perennial gardens and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing: 18 inches apart for solid groupings or borders; 36 inches or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

When planted right and in the right spot, Daylilies are exceptionally easy to grow. Though they will perform well in a wide range of soil types and conditions, they prefer a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. Full to mostly sun is preferred however plants will tolerate some lightly filtered sun or shade. We suggest at least 5 hours of direct sunlight for best flowering. Daylilies don't require deadheading but the removal of spent flower scapes (stems) encourage heavier rebloom. When established, daylilies are moderately drought tolerant.
