Description

A tough perennial that will survive cold winters and dry poor landscapes with no problem, Sage Advice is a new selection that sports the darkest purple flowers of any Russian Sage we've grown. The long lasting lavender flowers explode into bloom in mid summer and continue well into the fall contrasting nicely with minty green-gray foliage that is fragrant when crushed, releasing the scent of sage. This one adds outstanding texture and color in the garden and is the butterflies, hummingbirds and beneficial pollinators dream plant!

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a mounding clump about 32 to 36 inches tall with a spread of about 2 to 3 feet, the Sage Advice Russian Sage is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings or in mass plantings in sunny landscape and garden borders. A fine addition to herb gardens, butterfly and hummingbird gardens, rock gardens, perennial gardens, fragrance gardens, purple theme gardens, and the Xeriscape (low water needs).

Growing Preferences

Russian Sage is easy to grow in a variety of soils, including well-draining clay, but prefers a loamy to sandy, well-drained soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH ranging from 7.0 to 7.7 on the pH scale. It is also salt tolerant and drought tolerant and therefore suited for growing in seaside gardens.
