Growing 3 feet tall and up to 4 feet wide, the Sieboldiana Elegans Hosta is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings, or massed in shade gardens or as a border along paths and walkways. Elegans has been so reliable and such a strong performer for us that we have no problem at all suggesting it for use as an accent or in groupings in home foundation plantings. It is also nice under large shade trees, decks, covered porches and any other shady location. Don't think you have any shade? Look on the east side of your home. Very impressive in large containers and a fine addition to a mixed hosta gardens, hummingbird gardens, woodland gardens, and blue theme gardens. 

Suggested Spacing:  3 feet apart for mass plantings; 6 feet or more apart for space between plants

Sieboldiana Elegans Hosta is very easy to grow in most any moist but well drained soil of average fertility and part shade to shade. It prefers the shade, and will practically grow in the dark, so is perfect for planting under tall decks and large shade trees where not much sun shines. That said, it will morning or evening sun or all-day filtered sun or dappled shade is fine. Hot afternoon sun can scald the leaves, especially in warmer climates. Plant with the surface of the root ball even with ground level. If desired, flower stems can be removed after flowering. feed in spring with an organic plant food or flower fertilizer.
