Description
A beautiful, easy-to-grow, shade-loving, evergreen ground cover that spreads quickly by rhizomes to form dense patches or a dense, weed-blocking groundcover, 'Silver Edge' features attractive variegated leaves in shades of green and blue-green with creamy white margins. In spring, spikes covered in small, subtly sweet white flowers rise above and contrast beautifully with the foliage. Excellent in shade or part shade and will grow under the canopies of large shade trees. You might also be happy to know that it is deer and rabbit-resistant, drought-tolerant when established, and we've seen no insect or disease problems.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 8 to 12 inches tall and spreading slowly 12 to 18 inches wide or more, Silver Edge Pachysandra is ideal as a small or large space groundcover. It works perfectly as a mulch substitute under the canopies of large shade trees, where not much else will grow. It also fills in around shrubs and trees in home foundation plantings and shrub borders. It is excellent as a border along walkways and paths or massed on shady slopes for erosion control. It will not sprawl or trail over walkways or other surfaces.
Suggested Spacing: 6 to 12 inches apart for groundcover

Growing Preferences
Pachysandra is easy to grow and low maintenance when planted in the right environment. It adapts to many soil types but prefers moist, well-drained, acidic soil rich in organic matter—alkaline soil results in lighter green foliage. Applying Chelated Iron or Soil Sulfur or feeding it with a fertilizer containing iron will promote deep greening of foliage. Plants will tolerate periods of dry soil. Pachysandra thrives in partial to full shade. Direct mid-afternoon sun will burn foliage.
