Description

One our all-time favorites and hands down one of the easiest and most floriferous Iris you'll ever grow, the 'Silver Edge' is an exceptionally hardy and robust Siberian Iris that will grow almost anywhere in the United States (Zones 3a-9b). In mid to late spring, large beardless flowers with deep violet blue petals edged in silvery white are perched atop sturdy stems that rise to 48 inches tall above thick clumps of slender, deep green leaves that remain attractive throughout the season. The flowers are second to none for cutting and use in flower arrangements. Highly adaptable, you can grow Silver Edge in moist but well-drained to wet soils and full sun to part shade. Established plants in our gardens have demonstrated exceptional drought tolerance.

Landscape & Garden Uses

While most Iris are grown only in flower garden beds, Silver Edge Siberian Iris is one we consider to also be a "landscape iris." The dense foliage clumps it forms are excellent vertical accents in the landscape that can be used in design much like we use many ornamental grasses. Growing 36 inches tall with flowers up to 48 inches and spreading slowly to 2 feet or more in width, Silver Edge is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and is truly stunning in groupings or mass plantings in larger landscape borders. It's such a neat, vertical clump that remains attractive throughout the year that we have no problems suggesting it for use as an accent or in groupings in home foundation plantings. The perfect centerpiece for combination container gardens. A fine addition to blue or purple theme gardens, cut flower gardens, bog gardens, rock gardens and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing: 18 inches apart for mass plantings;  5 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

The Silver Edge Siberian Iris is easy to grow when planted in moist but well-drained to wet soils of average to low fertility in full sun to part shade. Very low maintenance, we feed plants annually in late winter after having cut foliage back to the ground with an organic plant food
