Description
A truly majestic and elegant hardy ornamental grass, ‘Skyracer’ is a tall and narrow growing Moor Grass that produces a gracefully arching and cascading foliage clump to 2.5 feet tall from which rise abundant tall flower stalks holding airy seedheads in mid-summer that tower over the foliage 7 to 8 feet tall. The thin but sturdy flower stalks and silvery seedheads with a purple cast quiver in the slightest breeze to provide movement in the garden. The cascading mound of handsome blue-green foliage and the flower stems turn to a rich golden-yellow in fall. Very easy to grow in full sun and moist to wet rich or poor soils, Skyracer is excellent as a vertical accent in smaller garden spaces or in stunning groupings or rows where space allows. It is right at home in the moist soils around streams, ponds and other bodies of water or anywhere the soil tends to stay moist to wet. Deer, rabbits and insects leave it alone, and we've seen no problems with disease on this hardy and attractive long-lived perennial.
Landscape & Garden Uses
The Skyracer Tall Moor Grass is ideal for use as an elegant accent in small garden spaces and containers or in groupings or rows in sunny landscape borders. Perfect for planting in those sunny areas where the soil tends to stay moist to wet. A fine addition to perennial and ornamental grass gardens, Asian gardens, rock gardens and around garden ponds and other water features.
Spacing: 24 to 30 inches apart for groupings or mass plantings; 6 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Skyracer Tall Moor Grass is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained to wet soil of average to low fertility and full to mostly sun. Thrivers ion a consistently moist soil. Maintenance is little to none. Foliage can be cut back near the ground annually in winter before new leaves begin to emerge in spring.
