Description
With stunning and tantalizing striped flower petals that bring to mind peppermint candy, the Sweet Fantasy Hydrangea is a rebloomer sure to be a conversation piece in the garden. You decide bloom color. A neutral to alkaline soil brings pink with dark pink stripes. An acid soil brings blue with dark blue stripes. The large rounded bloom clusters stand out remarkably well from summer and often well into fall against a backdrop of dark green foliage on rounded plants that grow quickly to 4 feet tall and 5 feet wide. Great for the landscape or in pots, planters and other containers.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to 4 feet tall and 5 feet wide and producing abundant flowers throughout summer and well into fall, the Sweet Fantasy Hydrangea is ideal for use as an accent, in small groupings or as a colorful hedge in home foundation plantings and landscape borders. It is also highly suitable for container culture and is a fine addition to cottage and cut flower gardens as well as blue or pink color theme gardens.
Spacing: 3.5 to 4' for solid hedges; 9' or more for space between plants
Growing Preferences
The Sweet Fantasy Hydrangea is easy to grow in average, moist, well-drained soil. The plants will tolerate mostly sun in northern zones however will appreciate some afternoon shade or filtered sun in warmer southern zones. We suggest at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day or all day lightly filtered sun for best flowering. We suggest leaving spent flowers on plants though through the winter to protect flower buds. These spent flowers can be snipped off in spring.
