Description
Handsome and loving life on the shady side, even in the deepest shade, the Sweet & Lo Sweet Box is a compact, low-growing, broadleaf evergreen shrub that spreads slowly to form a colony. It is a perfect choice for growing under large trees, decks, and around patios, porches, and other outdoor sitting or living spaces, where its abundant clusters of dainty, fragrant white flowers and thick and glossy lanceolate leaves provide a fine texture in the landscape in late winter and early spring. The bicolor white flowers, with a fragrance reminiscent of jasmine, are tipped in hot pink and followed by attractive, black, lustrous berries. Reaching maybe 30 inches tall and spreading gradually to form a mound 3 feet wide or more, Sweet & Lo is very easy to grow and excellent for use as a specimen, grouping, or low hedge, and the deer and rabbits won't touch it!

Growing in a dense spreading mound up to 30 inches tall and spreading 3 to 4 feet wide, the Sweet & Lo Sweet Box is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and containers, or grouped or as a border or groundcover in shady landscape or woodland borders and home foundation plantings. In our gardens, it thrives in the shade under the canopies of large shade trees where not much else will grow. Plant near outdoor living and sitting spaces so the sweet fragrance of the flowers can be enjoyed from close up. A fine addition to fragrance gardens, woodland gardens, Asian gardens, rock gardens, container gardens, and around water gardens.

Growing Preferences
Sweet & Lo Sweet Box is very easy to grow in moist but well-drained acidic soil of average or better fertility and part shade to full, deep shade. Morning and evening sun are okay, but avoid direct afternoon sun. Established plants have moderate drought tolerance when established. As with many other plants, constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. It does not require pruning, but it will respond well to it for shaping purposes. Prune after flowering in spring.
