Description

Abies concolor 'Swift Silver' is a fantastic, upright native White Fir selection with a tall, pyramidal form and elegant, slightly pendulous branches cloaked in soft, silvery foliage tinted blue. With a moderate growth rate for a white fir, you can expect 8 to 12 inches in height added per year, and 50 to 70 feet tall and 15 to 20 feet wide at its base when all grown up. Swift Silver will add eye-catching soft texture and soothing color to your landscape year-round.

Established conifers don't like being moved, so take some time to decide on the perfect spot to plant this beauty!

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 50 to 70 feet tall and 15 to 20 feet wide at its base, the Swift Silver White Fir is ideal for use as an eye-catching focal point specimen in large, sunny landscape borders. Two can be used to frame an entrance or the corners of tall homes, buildings, and other structures. It is also very lovely in spaced groupings and in privacy screen plantings. It is a fine addition to conifer gardens, silver, gray, or blue gardens, Asian gardens, Zen gardens, native gardens, and rock gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  12 to 14 feet apart for privacy screen; 25 or more feet apart for space between trees

Growing Preferences

The Swift Silver White Fir is easy to grow in a damp to moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and at least 6 hours or more of direct sunlight per day. As with so many other conifers, constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic, leading to root rot or other harmful plant diseases. So make sure to plant this one in well-drained soil, whether in the ground or in pots. Once established, it is highly drought-tolerant.
