Description
Hibiscus 'Tahiti', commonly known as Rose of Sharon, features loads of gorgeous, semi-double, 4" diameter deep pink-purple flowers that are accentuated with a deep red center from July through September, bringing welcome color and a touch of the tropics to the summer landscape. Tahiti has performed extremely well in our Georgia zone 8a gardens and is a magnet for butterflies and hummingbirds. If at all possible, make sure to plant this spectacular specimen where you can watch these winged beauties feed on the flowers.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 5 to 8 feet tall with a spread of 4 to 7 feet, Tahiti Hibiscus is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings in sunny landscape borders. Remove lower branches and you have a stunning small tree that fits perfectly in smaller garden spaces, landscape borders, home foundation plantings, around patios and other outdoor living spaces, or in containers. A fine selection for butterfly, hummingbird and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 4-5' for solid hedges; 9'+ for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Rose of Sharon is very easy to grow. They grow well in most any average, moist but well-drained soil and full sun to light shade. When established, plants are tolerant of dry soil conditions. Some light shade is tolerated. Too much shade and plants will become leggy and floppy and flowering is diminished.
