Discovered in the high Colorado Rocky Mountains by Dr. Allan Taylor, 'Taylor's Sunburst' is a beautiful Lodegpole Pine adored for its brilliant golden-yellow spring foliage. The foliage gradually transitions to a mellow creamy yellow by summer and medium green by the end of summer. Shaggy, brick-red bark and cherry-red small cones add even more appeal. Adding 6 to 10 inches in height per year, this selection forms an upright oval pyramid that reaches maybe 12 to 15 feet tall and 8 to 10 feet wide when all grown up. One of those trees that will always have you looking forward to spring, Taylor's Sunburst is an absolutely a striking accent tree in sunny to partially shaded landscape borders, home fundation plantings and rock and conifer gardens. Long lived and easy to grow in sun to part shade and moist but well drained to dry soils when established. USDA Zones 5a to 8b, and maybe 9 in cool summer climates?

Lodgepole Pines are easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average to low fertility and full to mostly sun. We suggest at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day for best foliage color. Drought tolerant when established, as with most other coniferous evergreens this one does not like a constantly soggy or wet soil. Does not require pruning however can be trimmed annually in late winter to maintain a smaller plant or for very interesting topiary forms.
