Description
A miniature version of our native Eastern White Pine, Pinus strobus 'Tiny Kurls' perfectly fits small garden spaces and containers. It features small bunches of attractive blue-green needles that twist and curve in all directions. When young, it has a rounded form, slowly (3-4" per year) developing into a pyramid that is maybe 6 or 7 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide at its base when all grown up. Tiny Kurls provides fantastic texture and form in the garden and will be a captivating conversation piece.
Landscape & Garden Uses
The Tiny Kurls Dwarf Eastern White Pine is ideal for use as a specimen in small rock gardens, conifer gardens, miniature gardens, and Asian gardens. It is also suitable for containers and as an accent in home foundation plantings near an entryway, patio, or on or around other outdoor sitting spaces and living areas.
Suggested Spacing: Best as a specimen or in spaced groupings 7 feet or more apart
Growing Preferences
The Mini Twist Eastern White Pine grows best in a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun, but will tolerate and appreciate some light afternoon shade in hot summer climates. As with so many other ornamental shrubs and trees, a constantly soggy soil can cause problems with the roots. Does not require pruning however can be trimmed annually in late winter to maintain a smaller plant or for very interesting topiary forms or bonsai.
