Description
Not to be confused with the 'Tranquility' Rose which is spelled with one "l" and has pink blooms, the 'Tranquillity' English Shrub Rose, spelled with two "l's," is a David Austin creation with pure white blooms. In flushes from spring through fall, it features abundant clusters of beautifully rounded large flowers with neatly placed petals making up perfect rosettes, or as perfect as a rosette can be. The buds are lightly tinged with yellow but as the flowers are opening they become pure white with a subtle, soft-yellow glowing center. Excellent for cutting and display in floral arrangements, the blooms exude a light fruity fragrance. A vigorous grower to 4 feet tall and equally as wide, the arching branches curving outwards in a most attractive manner are clothed in healthy green foliage. Living up to its name, the beautiful white flowers and subtle fragrance are sure to bring tranquility to any garden, patio or other outdoor sitting or living space.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to 4 feet tall and equally as wide, the Tranquillity English Shrub Rose is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings or as a hedge in sunny to mostly sunny borders that receive 6 or mopre hours of sunlight per day. Its smaller stature makes for a good fit in containers that can be situated on or around patios, decks and around other outdoor sitting and living spaces. A fine addition to cottage gardens, white gardens, Zen gardens, cutting gardens, antique and old-fashioned gardens, and fragrance and sensory gardens.
Growing Preferences
The Tranquillity English Shrub Rose is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average or above average fertility and full to mostly sun for the best flowering. That said, some filtered sun during the midafternoon hours is okay. Flowering is best when the plant receives at least 6 hours of direct sun per day. As with all other roses, morning sun is a must to dry dew from the leaves.
