Description
A spectacular Satsuki Hybrid Azalea and one of our all-time favorites, 'Wakaebisu' has everything we look for these days in an azalea. From late spring through early summer and reblooming in late summer well into fall, it feathers loads of large 2.5 to 3 inch salmon-pink flowers with a blotch of purple-red freckles on the dorsal petal. Handsome evergreen foliage is bright to medium green through the warm seasons turning attractive bronze shades during the winter months. Butterflies and hummingbirds love the flowers, and blooming branches serve very well for cutting to create stunning indoor floral arrangements. At maybe 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide when all grown up, Wakaebisu is a fine accent in small garden spaces or grouped or as a natural low hedge where space allows. This one is so dependable that we have no problem suggesting it for use in home foundation plantings. Also an excellent candidate for bonsai!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, Wakaebisu Azalea is ideal for use as an accent specimen in small garden spaces or in groupings or as a low hedge in partially shaded landscape and woodland borders and home foundation plantings. Also perfect for containers and bonsai. A fine addition to Azalea and Rhododendron gardens, Japanese and Asian gardens, cut flower gardens, butterfly and hummingbird gardens and cottage gardens.
Spacing: 2.5 to 3 feet apart for solid hedges or groupings; 6 feet or more apart for space between plants
