Description

One the best performers growing between stepping stones in our gardens, White Star Creeper, Pratia angulata, is a cute but tough little creeping ground cover with tiny, succulent-like bright green leaves that form a dense mat to maybe an inch tall. The plant spreads indefinitely by its creeping black stems to fill gaps between flagstones or will form a large mat of foliage when given more space to grow. Lobelia-like fragrant flowers with white petals and purple veining bloom from spring all the way to late summer in our gardens. Showy red to purple colored berries follow the flowers.

Landscape & Garden Uses

A dainty little groundcover growing 1 inch or less in height and tolerating foot traffic, White Star Creeper is perfect for use to fill the gaps between stepping stones and pavers, as a groundcover or underplanting for shrubs, roses, perennials and small trees, such as Japanese maples, or as a soil cover in container gardens situated above ground or in the margins of a garden pond. Excellent for bulb gardens where plants such as tulips and daffodils will pop right through in spring. A fine addition to white themed gardens, Asian gardens and bog and water gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  12 to 18 inches apart for mass planting;  6 to 12 inches apart to fill gaps between stepping stones or pavers
