Description

A hardy North American Native selection that is very easy to grow, the White Swamp Hibiscus, also called White Texas Star Hibiscus and Lone Star Perennial Hibiscus, is adored by folks and hummingbirds and butterflies alike for its large, pure white star-shape flowers with prominent central staminal columns that appear in abundance beginning in early to mid-summer and continue through early fall. Large plants 6 to 8 feet tall and 5 feet wide are clothed in deep green, palm-like leaves. Will grow in most any soil but thrives best in "swampy" conditions.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 6 to 8 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide, the White Swamp Hibiscus is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings or as a background plant in perennial, flowering shrub or landscape borders, especially where there is consistently moist soil and plenty of sunshine. Great around ponds, pools and other bodies of water. A fine addition to bog gardens, perennial gardens, tropical look gardens, hummingbird gardens and white theme gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  7 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Swamp Hibiscus are very easy to grow. They will tolerate dry periods but are most happy in consistently moist to "swampy' soils. Though they will tolerate some light shade, they will bloom their best in full to mostly sun. Maintenance is minimal. Prune annual in spring after new growth begins to emerge. At that time cut the plant back to just above the new growth.
