I order 5 of the confederate series azaleas. Buchanan, Semmes, Bedford, Lee, and Stuart (the 3gal). All arrived quickly and healthy. They are in the ground and very happy, these azaleas can be hard to find, esp plants bigger than a gallon. We love them. We purchased these plants on line and they arrived in a couple of days. They were extremely well packaged with no shipping damage. The plants were healthy and looked beautiful. Unfortunately, we live on a farm and the deer mowed them down on the first night. Thats the risk we took to have these native heirlooms.. We have babied them back to health and are going to plant them in a more secure location.-----------------------------------You might want to move them and try Milorganite, an organic fertilizer, the deer hate the smell! I wanted to wait to write this review until the spring, after seeing how the plant settled in. Of course, Wilson Bros did an excellent job of packaging my plant safely. I was really impressed by how well branched the shrub was already, which is rare for online shrubs I've bought elsewhere. It arrived with many buds, and now they are opening. The flowers are smaller than the non-native varieties and possess their own unique beauty. There is a slight, sweet fragrance. I'm hoping the local pollinators enjoy. I ordered 4 of the Admiral Semmes native azaleas, which have bright yellow blooms, to add that splash of color to my garden. They arrived within a few days and I was amazed at the size and beauty of the plants. They appear to be almost full grown plants and were in perfect condition - they were not even wilted! I ordered the 3-gallon size, and as I have ordered from other nurseries over the years, I have never received plants so large and so healthy looking. I was amazed, really! I will be ordering from this business again you can be sure! I have already had the opportunity to refer Wilson Bros. Gardens to an interested party after receiving my order which I did without hesitation.

I am a fan of deciduous azaleas. The Dodd series, 'The Confederate Series', fascinate me. Vibrant colors, tolerant of heat etc. Finding them has been difficult, probably all the more so given the stupid mentality of some to erase history, the civil war and what it was really about...states rights! Regardless, my plant of Admiral Semmes arrived. Carefully packed and shipped with equal concern. Beautifully grown, shaped and well-budded, it will be a welcome addition to my gardens! I bought 2 Admiral Semmes and my sister bought 1. The plants arrived in great shape, very healthy, well leafed. My sister gave me hers because the leader had been cut (topped), which she didn't like. I gave it to a neighbor. One of the two I received was topped; the other had a side branch cut off. That's the one I'm giving her since she prefers it. Pruning is okay, but not cutting off/topping the main upright branch. Maybe put that in the description or make it an option. That will leave me the one with the cut leader, which I'm not sure I'll keep. ------------ WBG REPLY: Hi Betty - Thanks for taking the time to provide us with your review. Regarding the pruning, sometimes we selectively prune a branch here or there for shaping purposes only. We can ship in up to a 6-foot box without incurring any major extra shipping expenses so don't prune for that purpose. Admiral Semmes Rhododendron is more of a shrub-form selection so if we see a stray branch growing way outside the natural form of the plant we'll often prune it, but not so much that it spoils the natural shape. That said, I'll take your suggestion and put a note on the plant page in the website mentioning that we sometimes do some selective pruning for shaping purposes.
