Description
A showpiece of a tree with 'Aka Shigitatsu Sawa' is a rare and beautiful mid-size upright Japanese Maple adored for its wonderful changing colors throughout the seasons. The colors can differ based on climate and the amount of sunlight the tree receives. With four or fewer hours of sunlight daily, its deeply-lobed reticulated leaves usually emerge pink, salmon, or peach shades with red highlights and green veins, transitioning to green and cream-white shades during summer and vibrant orange-red in fall. With five or more hours of sunlight daily, the leaves usually emerge deeper pink-red to red shades with green veins, transitioning to green with red highlights and vibrant orange-red shades in fall. The colors are fantastic, no matter the location. Though it will tolerate full sun in cool or mild summer climates, in the hot and humid South, we've noticed that the foliage tends to hold up better through the seasons with some filtered sun or shade during the midafternoon hours when the sunlight is most intense, especially on container-grown specimens. Sure to be a captivating specimen in the garden.

Landscape & Garden Uses
To showcase its magnificence and beauty, the Aka Shigitatsu Sawa Japanese Maple is best used in the landscape as a focal point specimen to draw attention to a specific area of the home or landscape. That said, you can plant it in groupings of three or plant two to frame an entrance.
Suggested Spacing: At least 14 feet apart for space between trees
