Description

An exceptionally rare deciduous Rhododendron, the 'Al Curry' Native Azalea features abundant clusters of coral color buds that open to absolutely beautiful, trumpet shaped, fragrant flowers with soft yellow petals highlighted with peachy pink and gold freckles on the upper petal. We suggest planting this spring-blooming beauty as a specimen to light up shady spaces or woodland borders.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 6 to 8 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide, the Al Curry Native Azalea is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings in woodland borders or other areas of the landscape that provide dappled shade and moist but well-drained soils rich in organic matter. It is also great choice for containers. A fine addition to fragrance gardens, Azalea gardens, yellow theme gardens, woodland gardens, native plant gardens, and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  We do not suggest planting this beauty as a hedge. Space plants 10 feet or more for space between plants

Growing Preferences

The Al Curry Native Azalea is very easy to grow in moist but well-drained, humus rich soil and dappled shade or morning sun with afternoon shade. Native azaleas are very low-maintenance, requiring little if any pruning. That said, they respond well to pruning for shaping purposes, but not so much that it would spoil the natural form of this beautiful shrub!
