Description

Very rare and an extremely heavy bloomer with one of if not the prettiest flowers we've ever seen on a cold hardy Kurume Hybrid, in spring, the Amy Azalea features semi-double hose-in-hose white flowers with soft pink overtones and deep red freckles on the upper lobe. An absolutely beautiful combination of colors all on the same flower. Blooming branches make for stunning indoor floral arrangements. The dark green evergreen foliage on a mound to about 4 feet tall and 5' wide serves as an excellent backdrop to the flowers. Excellent for partially shaded flowering shrub borders and home foundation plantings. Morning and evening sun with some filtered sun or shade in the afternoon is perfect.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a rounded mound 3 to 4 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide, the Amy Azalea is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings or mass plantings, or as a low hedge in partially shaded flowering shrub and landscape borders, woodland gardens, and home foundation plantings. Also a good one for pots, planters and containers. A fine addition to azalea gardens, pink theme gardens, Asian theme gardens and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  3 feet apart for solid hedges;  7 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

The Amy Azalea is easy to grow and care for. She prefers a moist but well-drained and acidic soil that is rich in organic matter and part sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun is ideal. Azaleas do not like wet feet so avoid planting them in sites where soil stays constantly soggy or wet. Good drought tolerance when established.
