Description

This is the distinctive single-trunk tree form version of the Purely Purple Crape Myrtle, the newest member of the Black Diamond Crape Myrtle family. Flawless and fade-resistant black foliage emerges in early spring followed by abundant clusters of vibrant, jewel-toned amethyst purple flowers that start coming in late spring to early summer and continuing well into fall. An intermediate size crape myrtle, as a tree form specimen this one might reach 13 to 15 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide, making Purely Purple a perfect fit and eye-catcher for any size landscape.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing to 13 to 15 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide, the Purely Purple Crape Myrtle Tree is ideal for use as an accent tree in most any size landscape, even smaller garden spaces and home foundation plantings, or in spaced groupings or rows to line a drive or walkway. Two can be used to accentuate an entryway. Also suitable for large containers. A fine addition to purple theme gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  Best as specimen or two to accentuate an entry though can be planted in spaced groupings or rows to line a drive or landscape border.

Growing Preferences

The Purely Purple Crape Myrtle is very easy to grow. It is not picky about soil type provided the soil is well-drained. A moist but well-drained soil of average fertility is preferred. Full sun is preferred and results in heavier flower production. Light shade is tolerated but flowering will be diminished in more shade. Has shown excellent resistance to powdery mildew and is quite drought tolerant when established.
