Description
Black leaved Heuchera have come a long way over the years and 'Black Pearl' is setting the new standard by which all others will be measured. Its jet black leaves are the darkest we've seen on any heuchera, or most any other plant for that matter. Not only are they black, they're pretty...not too spooky and won't scare your guests away as though they've seen a "shadow plant":-) The scalloped leaves with ruffled edges form very dense attractive clumps in both garden beds and containers. The evergreen leaves take on silvery overtones late in the season. Needless to say, this beauty is an excellent color and textural plant with almost any other types of plants, including other "black leaf" plants. To top things off, white flowers with pink calyxes are held on thin stems well above the foliage in summer. Growing in sun or shade, if there's any heuchera you must have it's this one!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a mound to 8 to 10 inches tall and 18 to 20 inches wide, with flowers to 20 inches tall, Black Pearl Heuchera is ideal for use as a solo or combined with other plants in containers, as an accent or grouping in garden beds and landscape borders, or as a border plant along paths and walkways. Will grow in full sun in the Pacific Northwest and other northern regions but prefers filtered sun or shade during the mid afternoonj in the deep South. A fine addition to Heuchera gardens, woodland gardens, black theme gardens, rock gardens and perennial shade gardens.
In garden beds or containers, we like to combine Heuchera plants with other Heuchera varieties hosta lilies, perennial ferns and other part shade to shade loving plants and trees.
Suggested Spacing: 15 inches apart for mass plantings; 30 inches or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences
When planted right, and in the right spot Heuchera are easy to grow.
Sun Preference: Though Heuchera tolerate full sun in cooler zones north of USDA Zone 7 they appreciate some afternoon shade in USDA Zones 7-9. If grown in full sun, consistent moisture is very important. Scorch and general foliage decline may occur if soils are allowed to dry out for too long.
Soil Preferences: Heuchera prefer a moist but well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy or wet soil is problematic. In the warmer climates of the southern zones plants are often evergreen, retaining nice foliage color throughout the winter season. In colder, northern zones foliage may discolor or die back over a harsh winter. Simply prune unsightly foliage away before new growth begins to emerge in late winter or early spring. Plant with the top of the root ball even with ground level. Care and maintenance are minimal. Feed in spring with an organic plant food.
