Description
An extremely rare selection of the Weeping Norway Spruce, Picea abies 'Glauca Pendula' features dusty blue-green foliage on a strict weeping habit. It is a robust grower, adding up to 12 inches to its height per year. It will grow to around 10 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide in 10 years and 15 feet or so at maturity. An exceptionally magnificent tree excellent in rock or conifer gardens, home foundation plantings, or anywhere in the landscape you want an outstanding focal point....or should we say exclamation point!
Landscape & Garden Uses
The Blue Weeping Norway Spruce can grow to 15 or more feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide at its base, serving as an outstanding focal point specimen in sunny landscape borders or home foundation plantings. It is a fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens, blue-theme gardens, and Asian theme gardens.
Suggested Spacing: Best as specimen or use two to frame an entryway
Growing Preferences
The Blue Weeping Norway Spruce is easy to grow in damp to moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. Constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic, leading to root rot or other harmful plant diseases. So plant it in well-drained soil, whether in the ground or pots. It grows well in full sun; however, some filtered sun or shade during the hot midafternoon hours will be appreciated in hot summer climates. For best overall performance and color, 5 hours or more of direct sunlight per day is suggested.
