Description

Extremely floriferous and cold hardy to USDA Zone 3, Bob is a compact panicle Hydrangea when all grown up might reach 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, making it a perfect for smaller garden spaces and containers. In midsummer, abundant clusters of creamy white flowers gradually transition to pink by fall putting on a spectacular show in the garden. The flowers almost completely cover the bush and are excellent for cutting and use in fresh or dried floral arrangements.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing to 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, Bobo Hydrangea is ideal for use as an accent in small garden spaces or in colorful groupings and hedges in larger spaces. Also a nice addition to mixed flowering shrub borders, as an accent in home foundation plantings, or in perennial gardens, and in medium to large containers. A fine addition to Hydrangea gardens, white gardens and cottage gardens.

Spacing:  3' for solid hedges; 7'+ for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Bobo Hydrangea can take the heat at our location in mid-Georgia, but is also exceptionally cold hardy, withstanding even the coldest winter temperatures in USDA Zone 3. It is very easy to grow in a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. In Zone 8 we've found it grows best in a location where it will receive some filtered sun during the hottest part of the afternoon. For best flowering provide at least 6 hours of sun a day.

Note:  Bobo is a Hydrangea paniculata species that produces its flowers from buds that are formed on "new wood" (the current season's growth). This means you don't want to prune them in late spring or summer when they're preparing to bloom.
