Description
Discovered at the University of Life Sciences in Poznan, Poland, the Boleslaw Chroby Ginkgo Tree is a true weeper that naturally forms an upright, elegant, irregular pyramid to 12 feet tall and 6 feet wide (maybe taller and broader) at maturity with strictly weeping branches that cascade downward. That said, it responds well to pruning for height control and shaping purposes. The cascading branches are clothed in large, beautiful, jagged-edged leaves with deeply divided lobes. Like other Ginkgos, the fall color is an unrivaled, impressive yellow. Its more diminutive stature makes Boleslaw Chrobry ideal for smaller spaces or in pots, planters, and other containers situated on or near patios and other outdoor sitting and living spaces where the tree can be enjoyed from close up. Very easy to grow and drought, disease, deer, pest resistant, and long-lived (100s of years), it is a captivating plant destined to be a conversation piece in the garden.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing slowly to an estimate of around 6 to 12 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide, depending on pruning, the Boleslaw Chrobry Weeping Ginkgo is ideal for growing in containers or as an accent tree in small landscape spaces and home foundation plantings. It is also excellent for rock gardens, yellow theme gardens, Asian gardens, and Zen gardens.
Suggested Spacing: Best as a specimen
Growing Preferences
One of if not the easiest trees to grow, the Ginkgo adapts well to adverse growing conditions in urban areas. It is remarkably disease-free, insect-resistant, and exceptionally drought-tolerant when established. It adapts well to most soil types, even clay, and won't be bothered by moist or dry soil conditions. Soil pH is of no concern, as Ginkgo trees perform well in acid and alkaline conditions. Boleslaw Chrobry will grow in full sun to light shade. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. No pruning is necessary, though Boleslaw Chobry responds well to it for shaping purposes and height control. Prune in late winter while the tree is dormant.
