Description
In waves from spring through fall the Boscobel English Shrub Rose features abundant red buds that open to beautifully formed, upward facing rosettes with over 70 petals in shades of soft to darker coral-pink all on the same bloom. Upon closer observation you might see hints of peach, orange and gold intermixed in the smaller center petals. The charming blooms are excellent for cutting and exude a wonderful myrrh fragrance with delicious hints of hawthorn, elderflower, pear and almond. A strong and healthy rose, Boscobel forms an upright bushy shrub to 4 feet tall and equally as wide, which makes for a good fit for small garden spaces and containers that can be situated on or around patios and other outdoor sitting areas where the pretty flowers and wonderful fragrance can be enjoyed from close up.
Named after the Boscobel House & Gardens Red, a Neoclassical mansion located in the heart of the Hudson Valley where Charles II hid in an oak tree during the English Civil War.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to 4 feet tall and equally as wide, the Boscobel English Shrub Rose is ideal for use as an accent or in groupings or as a hedge in sunny to partially shaded borders. Her smaller stature makes for a good fit in containers that can be situated on or around patios, decks and other outdoor sitting and living spaces where the blooms and fragrance can be enjoyed. A fine addition to cottage gardens, pink theme gardens, cutting gardens, antique and old-fashioned gardens, and fragrance and sensory gardens.
Growing Preferences
The Boscobel English Shrub Rose is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average or above average fertility and full to mostly sun for the best flowering. That said, some filtered sun during the midafternoon hours is fine. As with all other roses, morning sun is a must to dry dew from the leaves. Flowering will be best if the plant receives 6 or more hours of direct sunlight per day.
