Description
Brush Strokes Little Blue Stem Grass is an incredibly easy-to-grow North American native grass plant that glows in the landscape or garden. It forms a cascading mound of silvery blue foliage from which rises vertical, paintbrush-like, bristled, powder-blue stems in summer that turn to a handsome wine-red in fall. Fine hairs on the leaves softly catch the light, creating a glowing effect. Hardy in USDA Zones 3 to 9 means gardeners can enjoy this beauty almost anywhere in the United States. As with other little bluestem cultivars, Brush Strokes is easy to grow in full sun, is highly drought tolerant when established, tolerates periodic wet conditions, and is deer resistant. Reaching 36 inches tall in bloom and 24 inches wide, it is a good fit as an accent in smaller garden spaces and containers or grouped or in drifts where space allows in landscape borders.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing up to 36 inches tall and about 24 inches wide, the Brush Strokes Little Bluestem Grass is ideal as an accent plant in small garden spaces or can be planted in groupings or impressive drifts in more extensive landscape borders. It is also excellent as a centerpiece or accent in container gardens and a fine addition to ornamental grass gardens, bird and wildlife gardens, native plant gardens, blue theme gardens, prairies, meadows, or naturalized areas. Because it is exceptionally drought tolerant when established, it is also suited for xeriscaping.
Spacing: 18 inches apart for mass plantings; 40 or more inches apart for space between plants
