Description

One our all-time favorites and hands down one of the best and most profuse blooming Iris you'll ever grow, Caesar's Brother is an exceptionally hardy variety that will grow almost anywhere in the United States (Zones 3a-9b). We've had it growing in our landscape since the late 1980's and it continues to flourish and produce LOADS of flowers. In mid to late spring, deep purple beardless flowers perched atop sturdy stems rise above thick clumps of slender, deep green leaves that remain attractive throughout the season. Truly spectacular in mass plantings. Highly adaptable, you can grow Caeasar's Brother in moist but well-drained to wet soils and full sun to part shade. Established plants have high drought tolerance.

Landscape & Garden Uses

While most Iris are grown only in flower garden beds, Caeasar's Brother is one we consider as a "landscape iris." The dense foliage clumps it forms are excellent vertical accents in the landscape that can be used in design much like we use many ornamental grasses. Growing 36 inches tall and spreading slowly to 2 feet or more in width, Caesar's Brother Iris is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and is truly stunning in groupings or mass plantings in larger landscape borders. It's such a neat, vertical clump that remains attractive throughout the year that we have no problems suggesting it for use as an accent or in groupings in home foundation plantings. The perfect centerpiece for combination container gardens. A fine addition to purple theme gardens, bog gardens, rock gardens and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing: 18 inches apart for mass plantings;  5 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

The Caesar's Brother Iris is easy to grow when planted in moist but well-drained to wet soils of average to low fertility in full sun to part. Very low maintenance, we feed plants annually in late winter after having cut foliage back to the ground with an organic plant food

I was pleased by the size of the iris when it arrived. The plant appears healthy also. There was a little wilt when it arrived, likely due to the cold weather and the transplant to a pot. It appears to be doing well however. It is not time for it to bloom so I cannot comment on that aspect yet. I would recommend Wilson Brothers Gardens. I have ordered many items from them and they are always healthy and a nice size. I only note that sometimes their packaging is a little too small for a respective plant's height causing the plant to be bent over. This bend, in the evergreens I have purchased, sometimes takes more than a year to resolve. That being said, shipping large plants, or even plants in general, is not an easy task. A task, that for the most part, Wilson Brothers does very well.-----------------------------------------------We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the great review!
