Description

A super-hardy alternative to baby's breath that blooms summer to frost, Calamint features abundant, tiny white to soft lavender flowers dotted with purple in airy clusters that are a favorite of butterflies and other beneficial pollinators. Calamint is a member of the mint family but you might be happy to know that it doesn't spread by underground runners so is well-behaved in the garden. An excellent border softener with delightful airy texture and very low maintenance.

Calamintha nepeta has household uses and been used medicinally as a treatment for gastrointestinal disorders, depression, insomnia, and painful menses. That said, we're not herbalists!...so make sure to do your own research before using this plant for medicinal purposes. 


Landscape & Garden Uses

Calamint Plant is ideal for use as an accent in smaller gardens spaces or in groupings or as a border in garden beds and along walks and paths. With its long bloom period it is also nice as a solo or mixed with other sun-loving plants in pots, planters or other containers. Plant it near patios, decks, porches and other outdoor living areas where the fragrance and the pretty white flowers can be enjoyed from close up. A natural choice for herb gardens and a fine addition to coastal areas, fragrance gardens, white theme gardens and rock gardens. 

Growing Preferences

Calamint plant is easy to grow in most any somewhat loose and moist to somewhat dry soil of average fertility and full to mostly sun. It prefers a neutral to alkaline soil ranging between 7.0 to 8.0 on the pH scale, so add lime to acidic soils to sweeten them. Plants will tolerate some shade but foliage won't be as dense. It will tolerate dry periods, but flowers best with a damp to moist soil. Avoid constantly soggy or wet soils.
