Description

A charming miniature ball of dark and glossy foliage, the Cis Korean Fir is a beautiful, slow growing dwarf selection that adds only 1 to 2 inches in size per year making it perfect fit for small garden spaces and rock gardens and patio containers. Tiny bright light green "brooms' of new growth emerge in spring from copper-brown buds maturing to radiating deep green needles that almost don't look real, but they are! With a cute and tidy appearance and glistening foliage that's sure to draws attention, Cis might reach 18 to 24 inches tall and equally as wide when all grown up. Low maintenance, it requires no pruning or trimming to keep its naturally dense form. We list this one as cold hardy to Zone 5 but some say it's hardy in Zone 4 where winter low temperatures can drop to -30F.

Landscape & Garden Uses

At only 18 to 24 inches tall and equally as wide, the Cis Korean Fir is ideal for use as a specimen in a small garden space or container. A fine accent in home foundation plantings, conifer gardens and rock gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  Use as a specimen or space at least 3 feet apart in groupings

Growing Preferences

The Cis Korean Fir is easy to grow in a damp to moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to light shade. As with so many other conifers, constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic; leading to root rot or other harmful plant diseases. So make sure to plant this one in well-drained soil, whether in the ground or in pots. Once established, water needs are lower when growing in the ground. In pots, soil moisture will need to be monitored more closely, especially during summer. When the top two inches of soil is dry, provide water. No pruning necessary.
