Description
This is the eye-catching single-trunk topiary tree-form version of Daub's Frosted Juniper, a colorful, hardy, easy-to-maintain evergreen conifer. It forms a top about 2 feet tall and 3 to 5 feet wide above a straight trunk. New growth emerges golden-yellow through the season and matures to blue-green. It is a low-maintenance topiary that seldom, if ever, requires pruning unless you'd like to trim it to a more formal shape. Whether grown in a container or the landscape, it's a plant that adds much character as a specimen to home foundation plantings, rock gardens, patio gardens, and other outdoor living spaces, and anywhere you want to draw attention in the sunny landscape.
Landscape & Garden Uses
The Daub's Frosted Juniper Single Trunk Topiary Tree is ideal for use as a specimen in small to mid-size spaces or in a container of 18 inches or more in diameter. It is a fine accent in home foundation plantings, where it can be useful to accentuate or frame an entryway. It is also a fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens, topiary gardens, and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing: Best as a specimen or use two to frame an entrance
Growing Preferences
The Daub's Frosted Juniper is easy to grow in damp to moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. Once established, water needs are quite low when growing in the ground. As with many other conifers, constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic, leading to root rot or other harmful plant diseases. So make sure to plant this one in well-drained soil, whether in the ground or pots. Choose a container with a drainage hole(s) and use a quality potting soil or potting mix, or a 50/50 mix thereof. In pots, soil moisture must be monitored more closely, especially during summer. When the top two inches of soil is dry, provide water.
Average Trimming Per Year: No pruning is necessary though responds well to it for a more formal shape
