A lovely and very easy-to-grow North American native tree, the Debonair Pond Cypress is a new cultivar with a strictly upright habit and narrower outline than the species. It can reach 50 to 60 feet tall but with only a 15 to 20-foot width, making it a good fit for smaller landscape spaces where height is desired. The tree is clothed in soft-textured, delicate-looking ferny foliage on pendulous stem tips, and puts on a fantastic color show in fall when the leaves turn to shades of orange and red. Like with other Pond Cypresses, Debonair can be grown in average, moist, well-drained soils, but also thrives in wet soils and even standing water. It is very heat-tolerant, disease-free, and insect-resistant. A graceful, soft-textured tree that is a perfect vertical accent tree for smaller landscape spaces. USDA Zones 5a-11.

Being a native tree of North America, the Deboinair Pond Cypress is highly adaptable and exceptionally easy to grow in a variety of soil types, including clay, and prefers full sun to light shade. It thrives in soils of average moisture, as well as in wet soils or even standing water. Maintenance is minimal to none. Pruning isn't necessary; however, selective pruning for shaping is tolerated, or to remove lower branches to expose more of the trunk. Avoid pruning in the spring when the tree is emerging from dormancy. Prune in late winter.
