Description
The Double Scoop Cranberry Coneflower is an absolutely adorable variety in the Double Scoop Echinacea series. It features abundant double flowers from late spring through summer above a mound of clean, rich green foliage. Double Scoop varieties are more compact with better branching and produce more flowers than other double-flowered coneflowers. They bloom during their first year, and the flowers don't bleach out like other red varieties. The eye-catching, scented, double flowers of Double Scoop Cranberry are a glamorous dark red, with a lower ring of petals topped with a pom of smaller petals surrounding a brown-red center. The flowers are perched atop sturdy stems that rise well above the foliage mound and are excellent for cutting and use in fresh or dried flower arrangements. Reaching maybe 24 inches tall in bloom and nearly as wide, Double Scoop Cranberry is a fine accent in smaller garden spaces and containers or grouped where space allows. Drought, deer, heat, humidity, and poor soil tolerance, and a sizzling show of color throughout the summer, what more can we and the butterflies and hummingbirds ask for?
Landscape & Garden Uses
The Double Scoop Cranberry Coneflower is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and containers, or as a group or border in perennial gardens and sunny woodland borders. A fine addition to butterfly gardens, cut flower gardens, cottage gardens, wildflower gardens, and red theme gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 1.5 feet apart for groupings; 3 feet apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
The Double Scoop Cranberry Coneflower is very easy to grow. It is a highly adaptable plant that is tolerant of drought, heat, humidity, and poor soil. It will grow in most moist but well-drained soils of average fertility. It flowers best in full sun but will also do well and bloom in part shade. We suggest a minimum of 5 hours of direct sunlight per day. Spent flowers can be removed through the long bloom season. That said, towards the end of the bloom season, we always leave some spent flowers/seed heads on the plant for winter interest and to feed the birds.
