Description
A very pretty, super-hardy and easy-to-grow native flowering perennial, the Dwarf Crested Iris, Iris cristata, is adored for its abundant spring display of delicate, miniature irises with soft-blue petals. Each flower has golden-yellow and white accents. The flowers nearly cover the ground-hugging foliage that forms a solid carpet to only 6 to 8 inches tall spreading quickly to 12 inches or more. Though it will tolerate full sun with ample moisture, it is most happy and looks its best in a shady setting where it will be protected from direct afternoon sunlight. Perfect as an accent in small garden spaces or in groupings or as a low border in larger spaces.

Growing 6 to 8 inches tall and quickly spreading to12 inches or more, the Dwarf Crested Iris is ideal for use as an accent in small spaces or containers or in groupings or as a border in larger garden spaces. Looks great around rocks and boulders and is also a nice addition to container gardens where it serves as textural accent and soil cover. A fine addition to woodland gardens, native gardens, hummingbird gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 12-15 inches apart for mass plantings; 3 feet or more for space between plants

Growing Preferences
The Dwarf Crested Iris is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and shade to dappled shade. Morning sun is okay. That said, it will tolerate almost full sun if given adequate moisture. Maintenance is minimal. It does not mind poor soils, but will not grow in salty soils. Once established, it will tolerate dry soil conditions, but does with in a damp to moist soil.
