Description

One of those flowering plants that will always have you looking foward to its mid to late spring bloom, Eastern Shooting Stars is a beloved North American native perennial with one-of-a-kind flowers that are sure to make it a captivating conversation piece in the garden. The plant forms a rosette of lance-shaped leaves from which rise 1 to 4 stems up to 20 inches tall. Each flower stem is topped with 8 to 20 nodding flowers having petals that sweep back from a cluster of dark and yellow stamens that come to a point, which gives the appearance of a "shooting star." The petals can range in color from white to pink or purple shades, all of which are very pretty. A charming accent in smaller garden spaces or groupings where space allows in partially shaded sites with humusy, moist but well drained soil.

Eastern Shooting Stars is one of those hardy perennial plants like Bleeding Hearts Dicentra that goes into dormancy during summer, which means its foliage will naturally disappear. So don't be alarmed when this happens!

Landscape & Garden Uses

Eastern Shooting Stars is ideal for use as an accent in small garden spaces or in groupings in partially shaded garden beds and woodland settings. A fine addition to native plant gardens, beneficial pollinator gardens, rock gardens and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing: 15-18" for groupings, 24"+ for space between plants
