Description
Much like its larger growing cousin the ever-popular 'Emerald Green' Arborvitae, 'Emerald Petite' shares the same emerald green foliage color, lacy texture and dense, upright narrow form, but all grown up is less than half the size. Forming an upright pyramidal column to 6 feet tall and maybe 2 feet wide at the base, its smaller stature makes Emerald Petite a fine vertical accent in smaller spaces or centerpiece in container gardens. Excellent as a narrow hedge where space is limited, or use two to frame an entryway. Easy to grow, this handsome native evergreen is super cold tolerant to -30F and drought resistant when established.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 5 to 6 feet tall and 1 to 2 feet wide at its base, the Emerald Petites Arborvitae is ideal for use as a vertical accent in small garden spaces or in grouping where space allows. Its perfect for use as a narrow hedge around patios and other outdoor sitting spaces. Also very nice as an evergreen centerpiece in container gardens. A fine addition to, conifer gardens, rock gardens and formal gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 15-18 inches apart for solid hedge; 4 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Emerald Petite Arborvitae is easy to grow in a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to mostly sun. In Zone 8 hot-summer climates some light afternoon sun or shade would be appreciated during the midafternoon hours. We suggest 6 or more hours of sunlight per day. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. Maintenance is minimal with very little if any pruning ever required. A light shearing in late winter can be done for shaping purposes.
