Description
While most lacebark elm tree varieties grow very wide, Ever is a relatively fast-growing tree that reaches 40 feet tall and only 20 feet wide, making it a fine choice for smaller landscape spaces. Its ascending branches grow at an upright angle, making it a perfect choice for lining a street or driveway, or for framing an entrance or the corners of tall homes and other buildings. It features a dense canopy of deep green, serrated, oval-elliptic leaves that turn yellow in the fall, making it ideal for providing some shade around patios and other outdoor sitting and living spaces. With age, its gray bark peels to display green and orange underbark, providing a unique texture and color, hence "lacebark" in the name. Exceptionally easy to grow, it thrives in average to poor soils and is highly drought-tolerant when established, also tolerating occasionally wet soil. It responds well to trimming for a more formal shape if desired.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 2 feet or more in height per year and reaching up to 40 feet tall and 20 feet wide, the Ever Lacebark Elm is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or to line a street, driveway, or property line. Its dense canopy can also provide shade around the home and outdoor sitting and living spaces. When planted on the west side of a house, the shade it provides can significantly reduce cooling costs. It is a fine addition to wildlife gardens where it provides a canopy for shelter.

Growing Preferences
The Ever Lacebark Elm is easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil of average to low fertility, and requires six or more hours of sunlight daily. It exhibits high drought tolerance once established and also tolerates occasional wet soil. It is a low-maintenance tree that requires no pruning unless you want to remove some lower branches to expose more of the trunk or trim it for a more formal shape. Young trees will benefit from fertilizer; however, older trees can usually get the needed nutrients from the soil and rainwater.
